What changes around the stone?
A bezel surrounds the gemstone with a metal rim; prongs hold it at separate points. GIA's guide to stud-earring settings describes the tradeoff between exposing more gemstone surface with prongs and surrounding more of its edge with a bezel. That source discusses diamond earrings. For your style decision, ask which outline you want to see. A bezel makes the silver frame part of the look. Prongs break that frame into small points. If you dislike a visible metal border, start with prongs; if you like a clearly outlined circle, start with the bezel.
Will a bezel look bigger—or make the stone sparkle less?
Separate the size of the whole earring from the visible area of the stone. A rim contributes to the outside outline while covering part of the stone's edge. That does not tell you the finished dimensions of two different products.
Our bezel and six-prong studs both offer 0.5ct and 1ct equivalent per ear. Compare the same label first, then check the finished width. Those labels do not establish identical millimeter dimensions, and product photos are not displayed at a controlled scale.

Comfort and security: check the back as well as the front
A smooth-looking front is not a complete comfort specification. Before ordering, confirm the post length, fastening type and setting depth for the option you want. If those details are absent, ask for them rather than assuming every bezel uses a flat back or every prong stud uses a screw back.
Similarly, the word “bezel” does not make an earring impossible to lose. The fastening and condition of the complete piece still matter. If snagging is your main concern, request a close side view and details of the finish; we have not run a comparative snag test.

Which pair should you compare first?
